I reached out to Vylümi for our contest. Then it took over my setup.
A few months ago, I came across a product called the Vylümi Flö—an LED vinyl display that turns your records into glowing wall art. I’d seen it floating around online. People were loving it. So I reached out to the creator, Andrew, and asked if he’d be open to sponsoring a prize for our Build of the Month contest.
We got talking. He said yes. Then he sent one over so I could check it out for myself.
And now I can’t stop staring at my records.
The Vylümi Flö: An Overview
At first glance, the Flö is a circular backlight designed to display your vinyl. That’s the technical description. What it actually does is make your favorite pressings look like they belong in an art gallery.
Colored and translucent records look especially wild—almost like they’re glowing from the inside. And with 140+ light modes, plus 18 music-reactive settings, you can sync the lights with your setup and watch the colors dance to whatever you’re playing. It’s weirdly hypnotic.
How The Vylümi Flö Works
This thing was clearly made for colored vinyl. If you’re spinning plain black records, you won’t get much out of it visually—but the moment you throw on something translucent, marbled, or splattered, thats when it shines (no pun intended). The Flö lights it from behind so it glows like a piece of stained glass.
The electronics/design seem really intentional and thoughtful. The low-power LED lights stay cool, so there’s no risk of heat or warping your records. And the patent-pending nub system gently holds your record in place without bending it or putting pressure on the grooves. It’s subtle, but smart.
Power-wise, it’s simple: it runs off USB. You can plug it into your amp, computer, a power bank, or any USB wall adapter that can handle 2 amps. Setup is basically foolproof. You download the app, open it up, and it connects in seconds—no complicated pairing or weird syncing process. Just open, tap, and go.
From there, you get access to over 140 preset lighting modes—including a bunch of dynamic patterns, gradients, and fades. There are also 18 different music-reactive modes that somehow sync to the beat and shift with whatever you’re playing. I haven’t fully figured out how that part works yet, but when it kicks in, the result is wild—it’s like the record is pulsing with the music. Very trippy. Very fun.

The Flö also comes with a metal stand for tabletop setups and a built-in sawtooth hanger if you want to mount it on the wall. Whether you’re decorating your room or just showing off a favorite pressing, it fits right in.
Handbuilt, one at a time.
The part that really impressed me? It’s all made by hand. Andrew, the creator, builds every single unit in his workshop after hours. This isn’t some mass-produced gimmick. It’s a one-person passion project that just happens to be beautifully designed and ridiculously fun to use.
That passion shows up in the details. USB-powered for flexibility. Remote control and app included. Wall-mountable or tabletop, with a sturdy stand and built-in hanger. He even offers a dust cover for people who want to keep things pristine.
I wanted to feature it. Now I want to keep it.
Originally, I reached out because I thought it would be a fun, unique prize for our contest. But after using it myself, I completely get the hype. It’s not a product I ever thought I needed—but once it was part of my room, I didn’t want to go back.
We ended up giving one away to our May contest winner, and their reaction said it all. Excited emails, photos of their setup, the whole thing. It made their week. And honestly, it made mine too. It’s one of the coolest community prizes we’ve ever featured.
Final thoughts
If you’re deep into the vinyl world and want a new way to enjoy your collection—this thing is magic. It doesn’t play music. It doesn’t improve your sound. But it makes your setup feel complete in a way that’s hard to explain until you see it in person.
And yeah, we’re absolutely planning to feature Vylümi again in a future contest. I wouldn’t be surprised if it becomes a regular fixture (at least we hope!)
